hi, i’m karly
i believe the journey we take to embrace our queerness is a path woven with magic, guiding us home to our truest expression of self.
I came to this conclusion after coming out as a lesbian at 32. All my life, I knew I was queer, but I was terrified of this truth.
Why?
Well, like so many of us, I was raised to believe being gay was a ticket to hell. Growing up in an abusive household with undiagnosed autism, I learned the key to keeping the peace was through people pleasing and masking. I spent most of my life in a variety of closets, hiding my sexuality, my neurodivergence, and my psychic gifts. To the outside world, I had it all together. Once a high school drop out, I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. I owned and operated a successful mental health practice and worked as an adjunct professor teaching undergraduate psychology courses. While I was passionate about helping others heal, I didn’t believe healing was possible for me.
No surprise, the time came that I couldn’t keep the act up any longer. I surrendered to my secrets and did what I feared the most, I came out.
I came out as a lesbian.
I came out of the spiritual closet.
I stopped masking my autism.
It was during this process that I started to see the connection between my queerness and my spiritual path. Suddenly, I recognized the more I accepted myself and embraced my queerness, the more connected I felt to the universe. It dawned on me that the “awakening” we seek within spirituality is no different than the “awakening” we ultimately come to as queer people when we wake up to our truth and decide to live our lives authentically.
My mission is to help eradicate and facilitate change within harmful societal systems like patriarchy, capitalism, and colonialism. I believe the path to creating large scale, structural change begins with and within us. Therefore, I am forever committed to my own growth and healing and am here to help others do the same.
The Sapphic and Spiritual Podcast was created out of a need for more spiritual spaces for the LGBTQ+ community.
i believe being queer is inherently spiritual.
We deserve to feel included in spiritual spaces and conversations.
We deserve to see ourselves represented within spirituality.
We deserve to have our queerness celebrated as a gift.
We deserve for the path we walked to get to a place of authentic living to be celebrated and seen as divine, because it is.
Outside of the podcast, I’m a writer, creator, coach, and therapist.
I’d describe my art as “mystical musings meets sappy sapphic love poems."
I’m an intuitive and channel for the divine feminine.
I’m a newlywed to my best friend and soulmate, Kelly, and Mom to our feisty felines, Princess Pow Pow and Nimbus and our pup, Josie.
I’m most likely to be found wondering and wandering in the woodlands of the Carolinas, land that I acknowledge and honor as the ancestral and unceded land of the Occaneechi, Lumbee, Saponi, and Eno.
I believe as a spiritual and queer community, we must advocate for the liberation and freedom for all. I am working with the Sacred Solidarity Pod, a grassroots effort to help recently evacuated Palestinian families in Egypt. The reality is that families evacuating into Egypt are required to pay exorbitant fees and are often left with little, if anything, to secure basic needs. Please help us support these families by donating here. Please don’t hesitate to reach out directly to me if you are interesting in assisting us further.
